Climate change can be catastrophic to business development. Environmentalists are often confronted with the claim that stronger and more far-reaching environmental regulations will harm the economy by decreasing economic growth and increasing unemployment. As they see that many governments who are supportive to combat climate change are collecting the carbon emission tax to reduce the greenhouse effects. While such tax collection will accordingly raise the cost of doing business in many industries, which cannot be a gospel to the development of the social economy. For example, carbon taxes on air travel can well result not only in a reduction in long haul travel but also a spatial redistribution of activities, for the higher traveling cost may make mass tourism likely to continue to prefer destinations closer to home, which is not supportive to the development of global tourism.
Some others who claimed that climate change can be positive to the business may have their reasons. They believe that new business, such new energy industries that can alleviate greenhouse effects, will boom when nations try to battle the disastrous effects brought by climate change, which can consequently bring more working opportunities to society and raise the governments’ revenue. But, unfortunately, this kind of burgeoning industry needs time to grow, and it cannot be as positive as we imagine the economic development of society.

Every city has its architectural character, but the similarities between cities are more obvious these days than in the past. In my opinion, one reason for this is the high price of land.
In most large cities, land is scarce and consequently it is very valuable. This has led to the construction of tall buildings which occupy only a small area of land while providing lots of floor space where people can live or work. Buildings of this type are made of concrete and steel and can be built comparatively quickly using prefabricated materials. They do not use local materials, such as stone, timber or brick. In consequence, many cities now look very much the same and you might not know whether you were in Brisbane, Bangkok or Berlin when you are on the street.
While I realize that we cannot stand in the way of progress, I believe that cities should try to keep some individuality. For example, in Paris it is prohibited to build very tall buildings in the center of the city, as this would spoil the overall appearance of the skyline.
Other cities have chosen to design unique buildings to ensure they look different. The twin towers in Kuala Lumpur or the Opera House in Sydney are examples of this approach, and I agree with this kind of initiative.
All in all, although it is regrettable that modern cities look similar, I tend to feel that this is unavoidable. However, it can be argued that, even if the buildings are similar, cities will maintain their own character as a result of cultural diversity, the terrain and the climate, which ultimately determine how people live.

题目：In some countries around the world men and women are having children late in life. What are the reasons for this development? What are the effects on society and family life?

Advanced modern medical science allows young people to start a family in their 30’s or 40’s and this has become a lifestyle in many major cities.
The reasons for this trend may involve educational, professional and emotional factors. Women nowadays receive longer education, sometimes until they are turning 30 and this accordingly leads to late childbirth. A promising career may be another main cause of postponed motherhood. It cannot be denied that life and work are not easily balanced, especially for young people with little working experience. In addition, when climbing up a career ladder, not many young people have the chance to establish a stable marriage which is regarded as a significant condition for child rearing.
Admittedly, there can be some advantages for young people to delay their childbearing. Being ready to be parents may make better mothers and fathers because they would devote more time and energy to their family than their younger counterparts. After waiting for years for a baby to come along, more mature parents are more likely to deliver quality family education to their baby. Another advantage of late parents is financial security which is deemed to exert positive influence on child raising.
However, before they are able to have their baby, they may have to face some pregnancy problems such as low fertility, higher risk of diseases and genetic disorder. All these problems can sound overwhelming to first-time parents. Not only being confronted with health challenges at midlife, but these couples also have to deal with their retirement life as they would not be supported by their children when they are old. From the society perspective, later conception in life can decrease the birth rate and labour force can be in short in the near future.
In conclusion, the reasons for deferring maternity to midlife are largely attributed to working women and the drawbacks seem to outweigh the benefits. Although parents may be more prepared for a new family member, they have to take more risks of health of both mothers and babies. Meanwhile the society has to suffer from labour shortage.
