Describe an achievement that you are proud of

You should say:

What it was

How it was made

What difficulties have you encountered during the process

Why you are proud of this achievement

Now I'm not only as slim as I used to be, but I'm also fit enough. And I'm genuinely proud of my achievement. I should say it was hard to change my habits, my diet and my lifestyle, and at some point I was about to give up because all those activities were really time consuming. But I didn't, thank God, though I was facing a lot of difficulties. Another thing that makes me feel inordinately proud of myself is that I achieved great results without anybody's help. I just read blogs and forums, used a lot of online resources, but it was I that decided what to do with myself. This is something I never thought I could do. You can't even imagine how much effort I put in achieving this result. I would even say I was fighting the battle of my life. And I won.

However, the thing that makes me the most proud of all is the thought that so many people around the world have improved their English using my method.

I felt sad for the man. He might have started his work or to attend an important appointment or for any other purposes. But he could not reach his destination. And it was a troublesome matter for him. However, being able to help him was a great feeling for me. To put it in a simple word, it was fulfilling.

1. What is the difference between big companies and small companies?

还有一点儿要注意的是,我们不要多太绝对的语言,比如‘all the big companies’或者‘every small company’这样的字眼;可以多使用vague language,比如‘perhaps’‘probably’‘most likely’‘possibly’等。

语料:

plenty of clear differences

while on the other hand

get promoted 升职

get a promotion 升职

Well obviously there are plenty of clear differences, but I guess one of the most obvious one is that there are a lot more employees in big businesses while on the other hand there might be only a few people in a really small place, like family business or stuff like that. Apart from that, another point I can think of is that you might be able to have more chances to get staff trainings to work on your professional skills in a bigger place whereas in contrast when you just start working in a small place, they might just expect you to skip the training part.

2. What are the good things about working for a big company?

Well, I suppose that there are quite a few clear benefits, but I would probably say that the most obvious part is that people might have more chances of getting a promotion in a big business because there will be loads of positions so you can work your way up. As well as this, another good bit about working in a proper company is that you are more likely to be granted some benefit like health insurance, group travels or stuff like that.

3. Why do some companies prefer senior employees?

remain at the same place

first thing you might have noticed

Well, I guess it’s mainly because there are loads of benefits when it comes to hiring senior employees. First thing you might have noticed is that older staff are always more experienced in a certain area. I mean they know what they are doing. Plus the HR department doesn’t have to spend too much time or money training them. What’s more, new graduates might tend to keep changing their jobs and that whereas older employees would want to remain at the same company and they are normally slightly more stable.

1. What skills are necessary when making decisions?

Making decisions is a complex process, which might involve a great many skills. For starters, the ability of collecting facts and figures is essential, because the first step of making a decision is to get a whole understanding of the relevant information. Sometimes, we need to be computer-literate to look up information on the Internet. Secondly, we shall be able to do some data analysis so that we can make a wise decision. In addition, we need to keep calm inside, even when it is an urgent situation and we are asked to make prompt decisions, otherwise we might decide on something and regret it quite soon. Finally, a good decision-maker should be able to control his own mood and never get emotional, since we are not likely to make a good decision when we are thrilled, furious or anxious. So to sum up, there are plenty of necessary skills when making a decision. Sometimes we are not even aware of them.

2. How can people improve their decision-making skills?

这个题目的回答思路其实还是比较广的,我们可以将此题和上一题联系起来(很多时候考官确实会把这样的两道题目连着问),那么此时我们就应该从上一题的答案出发,具体讲解如何提高搜集信息的能力,如何提高分析数据的能力等等,这是一个思路;

I think people can improve their decision-making skills the way they do to improve all other skills – by learning and practising. If someone feels that he is not good at making decisions, the first thing he might have to do is to observe – to find out how others will react when it comes to a similar circumstance. The second step is to compare and contrast. By doing this, people can have a clear understanding of the strong points and the weakness in their decision-making process, so that they could make a progress. The key point of improving the decision-making skills lies in practice. Just like everything, decision-making skills could get strengthened only when we put them into reality. Provided we keep training ourselves in this way, we can all become wise and responsible decision-makers.

Describe a favourite item of clothing.

You should say:

what it is

when you bought it

why you bought it

and say why you like it so much.

I’m not really that into clothes. I do try and look fairly smart but I’m not that bothered by my personal appearance and the clothes I’m wearing. But I will tell about my favourite article of clothing – my leather jacket. That is by some distance my favourite piece of clothing.

It’s a fairly normal or regular leather jacket. The one unusual feature I suppose is that it has white stripes down the sleeves. It’s also quite well-worn by now because I’ve had it some time and I tend to wear throughout the winter months. In fact it’s got quite a few little tears where it’s caught on sharp objects. I still love it though and I don’t mind at all that it looks rather second-hand.

I bought it at least 5 years ago now. It came from one of those big department stores and not a specialist leather shop. My old coat was very shabby and I was told by my girlfriend that I definitely needed to buy another one – I think she was embarrassed to be seen with me.

So I went out by myself. I think it must have been sometime in January when the New Year sales were on. My girlfriend wanted to come with me and help me choose something smart but I said I would do it by myself. We shop in very different ways. She always wants to try everything on and can spend hours buying nothing. My approach is quite different. If I see something that I like and it fits I buy it. She might be two hours in a shop while I normally only take 15 minutes.
