The Chinese calendar is based on acombination of lunar and solar movements. The lunar cycle is about 29.5 days. Thisis why, according to the solar calendar, the Chinese New Year falls on a different date eachyear.

New Year's Eve and New Year's Day are celebrated as a family affair, a time of reunion andthanksgiving. The celebration was traditionally highlighted with a religious ceremony given inhonor of Heaven and Earth, the gods of the household and the family ancestors.

Chinese New Year is the most important holiday in China.

Lots of people always post a kind of red paper on the door, and write some good words and sentences on them, like spring, good luck, and Happy New Year. It is very fun. And in Chinese New Year, we also set off firecrackers. That's great and exciting. Children play firecrackers in the fields. And lots of Chinese will buy lots of new clothes, hats and pants. We would put them on, because we think that will make people have luck and get rid of bad things from last year. I like Chinese New Year because it is very fun. We have lots of interesting old customs. If you weren't Chinese, I think you would like it just like the Chinese.
