-You are coming to the seminar tomorrow right?
-Actually, I have to wait for a delivery in my flat, so I probably can’t make it.
-你明天要来小组讨论课的吧?
-其实…我明天得在家等快递，所以可能来不了了。
表达转折，和自己期待的不一样。
比如说你听说食堂的饭很难吃，但是发现其实没想象的那么难吃，你就可以说：
Actually the food is not as bad as I thought.
其实也没有我想的那么难吃嘛。
As a matter of fact
这个短语可以使用在你想告诉别人一个事实，但是这个事实可能不是对方能预期到的。
比如你在做presentation的时候，想要告诉大家一个会让人出乎意料的结论时就可以这么说：
To be honest
其实吧(老实跟你说吧)
这里的转折是出现在当你真实的想法可能让对方惊讶的时候。

其实/不过(字面解释：公平的来说)
这里的转折是当你想为一件事或一个人做解释的时候。当别人对这件事表达消极的态度，你想要告诉他其实别有隐情的时候你就可以使用这个短语啦。

- To be fair, we just started this new topic. We need to go over the basic stuff before we go on to discuss interesting things.

如何用转折语让英语口语听着更丰富
首先，我们在举例的时候我们第一个想起来的肯定是for example，不过，除了for example之外呢，其实还可以使用such as，for instance，to illustrate。接下来，我们来看一个例句：
Many films contribute to Emma Watson's fame.For example， the Harry Potter series and Beauty and the Beast.
我们可以用上述的其他几个词，将其更改
为Many films contribute to Emma Watson's fame.For instance， the Harry Potter series and Beauty and the Beast.

第二种我们经常使用的转折语是表达因果关系的，除了because和so之外，还有一些可以表达因为关系的单词和词组，比如说due to/owing to这些也是可以来表达因为。接下来，我们可以看下例句：
He had to cancel the meeting because of a schedule conflict.
我们可以用due to和owing to带入，将其改为
He had to cancel the meeting due to/owing to a schedule conflict.
第三种转折语是用来表达对比关系的，就是来表达，这个状况是…，但是我要说的是…。这类型的转折语，用的比较多的是on the other hand 或者是 instead of。除了这两个，还有whereas(却，而)，otherwise(除此之外，否则)，unlike(不像)等，也可以用来表达对比的意味。
最后我们要说的一个转折语是，按照时间顺序推下去的转折语。最常见的是first，second，…finally。我们也可以使用meanwhile，做个单词表达的是同一个时间正在发生的事情。

英语口语怎样使用转折语
一、举例时
说到举例，大部分人脑中想到的第一个转折语肯定是“for example"，但除此之外，我们还可以用到这些：such as/ for instance/ to illustrate，以下分别为这三者的举例使用哦~
例句：
- 许多电影作品促成了艾玛华森的名气;举例来说：《哈利波特》系列电影以及《美女与野兽》。

二、表达因果关系时
表示因果关系我们用的最多的就是“because/so”，但常用的其实还有：due to/ owing to(当然because of也是我们经常用到的)。
例句：
- 由于行程上的冲突，他必须取消会议。
- He had to cancel the meetingbecause of/ due to/owing toa schedule conflict.
三、表达对比关系时
这类转折语比较多常用到的是“on the other hand/ instead of”，在这类别下其实也有其他比较常用的转折语，如：whereas(却，然而，反之)，otherwise(否则，除此之外)， unlike(不像，与……不同)。
1、whereas举例：
- Some people prefer American accent, whereas others prefer British accent.
- 有些人喜欢美式口音，而有些人喜欢英国口音。
2、otherwise举例：
- The price is a bit high, but otherwise the food is satisfactory.
- 除了价钱稍贵外，食物挺好吃的。
- Hand in your homework by midnight, otherwise I will have to fail you.
- 午夜前交出你的作业，否则我就当了你。
3、unlike举例：
- Unlike my sister, I'm very athletically inclined.
- 我运动神经很发达，不像我妹妹。
四、按时间顺序时
一般我们都会用“First, second...finally.”这样顺序词，很保险、也不会出错，但为了可以多变化些，我们也可以使用meanwhile(同时间正在发生的事)这样的转折词哦。
例句：
- It's raining cats and dogs in Pudong. Meanwhile, back in Puxi, it is scorching hot.
- 浦东下着倾盆大雨，但同一时间，浦西炎阳炙人。
