Could I borrow some money?

Ifwe raceyou'lleatmydust!

通常把“吃土”译为:eat/live on dirt/soil。

比如:

I spent too much money shopping online this month. It seems that I will have to live on dirt next month.

He burnt clay for pottery.

It isn't clear whether the plane went down over land or sea.

After the rain, the roads were covered in mud.

The ground had eroded.

The truck left clouds of dust in its wake.

They all sit on the dirt in the dappled shade of a tree.

We have the most fertile soil in the Midwest.

The term eating soil also became a trending hashtag(#标签) on Weibo, a common term in China for being so poor you could only afford dirt for meals.

poor and bare to the bones =penniless adj.

poverty-stricken adj.

not have a bean =not to have a single penny left =not have a feather to fly with 囊中羞涩

stony-broke=stone-broke = to be skint

on one’s uppers

down and out 穷困潦倒的;(拳赛)被击倒地

poor wretch 穷光蛋
