中国境内的火车有local train(慢车)、direct train(直快)以及special express(特快)等几类之分。乘客可以根据自己的具体情况选择hard seat(硬坐)或soft seat(软坐)，semi cushioned berth(硬卧)还是cushioned berth(软卧)。火车票大多数人会自己去车站买，不过那售票窗口前的长队真可以排到一公里外。而且由于黄牛党奇多，排队多半是买不到票的。到各个代售点买票也不失为一种好方法。
在办理预订服务时一定要确定车次、时间、票价等。在英语中说几号星期几，一般星期在前，日子在后，比如Friday the fifth。另外，请注意表示几号要用序数词。比如the first(1号)，the second(2号)，而不用基数词one、two、three等。
