A Good Advice you recieved

You should say:

what the advice was

in what situation you received this advice

who gave you the advice

and explain why you thought this advice was good.

what the advice was

The most important advice I received in my life was: "Know yourself". Quite a simple one but, it means much more to me than it sounds.

in what situation you received this advice

During a certain period in my early 20's, I was extremely arrogant. Every time I assumed I would be successful, I would get whatever I wanted. I didn't respect people around me, and even my arrogance came out in every speech I made.

who gave you the advice

Mom thought I was full of myself, irritating. She once told me to "know yourself"! Mom said it's inscribed on the front of the temple of Apollo. And entire quote is "know thyself, and you shall know all the mysteries of the gods and of the universe." That's quite a mouthful. Her version is this. "Know yourself because what else is there to know?"

and explain why you thought this advice was good.

As a child, we don't always realize that parents tell us what to do out of love. I discovered that she was right after awhile. To get a thorough understanding of oneself is to gain a correct view of oneself and be a sober realist -- aware of both one's strength and shortage. You may look forward hopefully to the future but be sure not to expect too much. I think feeling small is the first step to knowing yourself. Being silent is the second. I think we are afraid of silence because we don't want to be small. If we are too silent, we might slow down enough to recognize that something much deeper, much larger, and much more ancient than us is slowly trying to tell us something. And that's scary. But I think it's worth a try. Maybe it will tell us who we are. That's to way so long as you have a perfect knowledge of yourself there won't be difficulties you can't overcome, nor obstacles you can't surmount.

Milly gave me some advice about health care.

She said that a person who wanted to be healthy must do 3 things.

The first is sleeping well. Sleeping is the most important factor of health. A person needs to sleep at least 8 hrs every day, and the best time for sleeping is between 10 pm and 7 am. staying up is the killer of fitness, while in the past, I liked to play computer games very much, sometimes I stayed up overnight and slept for 24 hrs the second day, which was a really bad habit.

Milly also suggested me to eat more vegetables and fruits, especially the fresh ones. But for me, I thought, vegetables were grasses, which was used to feed animals. Instead I only ate red meats, like pork, beef and mutton, now I am trying to change the habit and I am getting used to vegetables and fruits.

The last, she suggested me is doing exercises. At that time she was doing yoga, which she thought was an excellent exercise for ladies. I haven’t joined her so far, though I tried many times, but I will make up my mind to do it.

That is the suggestion from milly, who helped me a lot. I do appreciate it very much.

We remember many conversations that help us chose our course of action while there are many conversations that we wish we did not have. The conversation that motivates us/ guides us and teaches us value and morality of something are remembered by us.

I had a conversation with my high school history teacher that I consider very important. His name was (…say a name…) and he used to take our history classes in my high school level. The conversation took place many years ago when I was around 16 years old. One day I went to his room to submit an assignment and then all of a sudden the conversation started.

The conversation covered many things related to my education, some of the important facts of history, our morality and necessity of learning history in order to shape the future.

I was mostly a listener of the conversation but I opined often when he made a remark and I also asked questions during the conversation.

The conversation was interesting as he was a person who had a great ability to judge the listener and to motivate the other party. I was listening very attentively as he told many international events and some of our national events that has changed the world. I felt a great enthusiasm about reading the history after the conversation. I started visiting the central library after that day and since then I have read many books which I considered to be treasures that I found.

The conversation specifically motivated me and pointed out the importance of learning about the history and finally how to use my brain when there are different versions of history specially which are related to political events.

sample answer:

I’m going to talk about an online community I joined and helped set up to help me study for this exam. I’ve been studying for IELTS for quite some time now and it’s a really big part of life because I’m trying to emigrate to Australia. I started out just studying by myself with some books and getting advice from sites on the internet. That was okay but it was rather lonely and I was beginning to lose motivation because I didn’t have a study partner.

So about two months back I decided to look for people to work with online because I didn’t know anyone in my personal life who was also studying for IELTS. That was a great decision. It’s just so easy to connect with people on social networks nowadays – that’s how modern relationships work I guess. I signed up to a number of different forums and eventually I found a site where I could find a speaking and study partner for the test.

I worked with a few different people and we formed our own little self-help group. There were around 12 of us and we came from all over the world We used to give ourselves speaking practice on Skype – which was useful for swapping ideas and language and that sort of thing – but the best bit about it really was just having someone to talk to. If I was getting a bit down I knew there was someone out there who would encourage me and just give me support – be a shoulder to cry on!

So that’s the story of the group I set up. It was one of best decisions I ever made and I think I’m going to stay in contact with the people I met there well beyond the exam. We formed a really close bond.
