Describe a pet you would like to own.

Describe a pet people often keep in their country.

(1) What it is

(2) How long you have raised it

(3) How to take care of it

(4)Explain what benefits you can get from keeping a pet

Sample Answer

If I ever decide to buy a pet, I would buy a hamster. A hamster is a kind of mouse, and it’s smaller than a rat. It doesn't have long tail, and its mouth is not sharp. Hamsters have a lighter colour, something like gray. The reason I choose hamsters is that they’re so adorable and mischievous. Furthermore, hamsters like to run around a wheel and can go for 15-20 minutes without stopping. To me it is fascinating to watch them do that.

They are actually very easy to take care of. I would just need to put the hamster in a cage, have some pet toys in there, and that would be enough. Food for hamsters is very simple: they like to eat carrot, fruits, and nuts. Of course, we shouldn't forget water. It's very simple to keep the cage clean. Just make sure the cage is clean and water is replenished every day. I would say a hamster is a very clean animal and very entertaining just to watch. I'm sure all kids and adults would surely like a hamster.

If I get the chance and nothing unusual happens, I would like to start playing basketball soon. This is a sport that fascinates me a lot and after 4-5 months when I will finish my graduation, I will start playing this game on a regular basis. In fact some of my neighbours already play this game every evening in a nearby basketball playground and all I have to do is start playing with them.

They are very close to me and they’ll definitely welcome me to join their team. I will need to buy a pair of sports trousers and shoes and spend some money to start playing it. Actuality the expense is very low and that wouldn’t be a problem for me to start the activity.

Though I often watched this game on television or in our local play-ground, I never played it myself. May be I was bit anxious about the performance or skill of mine in this game and that’s why I have not started it yet. I planned to start playing it when I was in grade 9, but because my family had to move to a new city, I could not start it.

This is a game that fascinates me and since I often watch it on television, I have a great passion about it. Two of my previous attempts to start playing this game were ruined and I feel somehow that has enhanced my interest about this game even more. I need to shape my body and I found it would be a great game to do so. That’s the most important reason I want to start it as soon as possible.

Describe a visitor in your home)

I’m going to talk about an occasion when a very close friend of mine visited where I live.

He is a Chinese person. His real name is Xin Lin, but we usually call him by his English name, which is Steven. He was studying in the same university with me in England when we did our Master’s last year, and we both lived in the same flat in the university halls of residence. We were so close with each other because we spent a lot of time cooking and talking with each other, but we haven’t met for a few months since we left England.

So the occasion was a month ago when he visited Vietnam to travel. He had never been to my country although China is right next to Vietnam. So, he decided to come to my country to visit me.

We were really excited to meet each other again, and he was excited as well to come to my house for the first time. I invited him for dinner, and I myself cooked something very special for him, which was a traditional Vietnamese dish. We talked a lot during the meal, and we reminded each other of the memories we shared in England.

I was very happy when Steven came to see me. The reason is because we had not had a chance to see each other for a long time, and you know, it always feels good seeing an old friend. The occasion brought back a lot of good memories that I think I can never forget.

Describe a success in your life.

You should say:

when it was

what it was

why you chose it

how you achieved.

I guess success can vary depending on your viewpoint. Some people judge success by how much money they have, the clothes they wear or the car they drive. In that respect I maybe haven’t had a lot of success so far in my life, but I have still achieved things that I am proud of.

One such thing I can remember happened when I was an undergraduate at university, I think during my second year. We were encouraged to get involved in after-school activities and events, so I volunteered to help organise a dubbing contest that was taking place. You have probably come across dubbing if you’ve watched a foreign film and the native language has been replaced with another one over the top. The students that took part had divided themselves into groups of three or four people. They would take it in turns to go up on stage and play an English movie without the sound turned on, while they spoke the words over the top of the video.

I mainly chose to volunteer so that I could earn extra credits, or points, to go towards my degree. But it was also a good opportunity to meet some new people and it gave me something to do in my spare time.

In the end everything went off without a hitch and the night was a big success. We had rehearsed everything again and again and all the hard work paid off. I think the key to the success was everyone’s effort and teamwork, it wasn’t just a personal success, but one that I shared with a whole group of people.
