When I was a middle school student, I was really fond of my school library which was located in the middle of the school. It was a very old-fashioned building, probably built date back a decade ago. The library had twelve stories with a spiral staircase and lifts, so it was the tallest building in my school.

generally the library is divided into three sections: general books’ section, students’ reading room and computer room. The library had a large hall filled with big shelves, bookstands and furniture in each storey. The room is airy and spacious. More than hundred students can use it at the same time.

I went to the library almost several times a week. I was great fun for reading novels when I was a child. And at that time it was only place I could find wonderful books that I couldn’t get at home. Nearly all the books I borrowed were novels which benefited me tremendously because they broadened my horizons and cultivated my desire in my future education perspective. In addition, the librarian was my neighbour and was always polite to me which motivated me to come back again. So I had lots of unforgettable memories in that library.

Describe something you learned in a place or from someone

You should say:

What it was

Where or who you got it

What the situation was

How you felt

Describe someone who is knowledgeable

Something I learned from someone was about some basic Vietnamese from a teacher of mine named Ellen who is a very professional language teacher trainer in the U.S.

Last year I got some training in language teaching from a certified professional trainer in Cambridge. One day morning in Sept., she gave us a language course about Vietnamese in Vietnamese which we didn’t have any knowledge about. Plus, she was very strict with us in terms of learning. So, I even got butterflies in my stomach and worried that I might not pick up anything about it because you know how hard it is for a beginner or even a learner with zero foundation to learn how to blurt out a sentence.

However, what happened next made us just can’t believe it’s real. Under some guidance using some gestures and facial expressions together with some realia, we managed to say some greetings and personal information in Vietnamese.

I felt it was one of the most memorable periods last time. Because you would imagine how magical it is when you had been able to pick up some Vietnamese in the class where only lessons taught in Vietnamese!

Since then on, She just became my role model in language teaching. I hope I could one day make a difference at least in my own little circle.

Describe a team you were part of.

You should say:

when the team was formed

who else participated in it

what you did there

and explain why you became part of the team.

I was an enthusiastic member of the student union while I was at university. My university was founded in 1950 and the union had existed for many years, but obviously there was a turnover of members as students graduated.

Besides myself, the union consisted of a number of my fellow classmates and some students from other departments. It was nice to mingle with people outside of my department and make friends in different circles. Despite this, I was especially glad that my good friend Tina was also an active member, so we could chat and see each other without our union commitments getting in the way.

The role of the union was to organize student events, for instance the end of year party or certain competitions like the annual drama contest. The biggest occasion I had a hand in was the university’s 50th Anniversary, where we threw an elaborate party, with dancers and fireworks and even some VIP guest speakers.

At first, I had little to no interest in joining the union, but prospect of seeing Tina more regularly was a real incentive for me, not to mention I thought it would look good on my résumé in the future. It turned out to be a great choice as everyone welcomed me with open arms and I made friends that I plan to keep in contact with for the rest of my life.

1. Do you think it's important to be on time?

Yeah, I think it definitely is, because it’s basic manners to be on time for things. You know, I think you‘d agree it’s pretty rude to keep people waiting, and so it kind of leaves a bad impression on people.

2. How do you feel when others are late?

Well I guess it kind of depends, because I mean, if there’s a good reason for being late, you know, like getting stuck in traffic, then I won’t really mind that much. But you know, if the person doesn’t really have any excuse and it’s simply because they couldn’t be bothered to arrive on time, then I suppose I might feel a bit annoyed.

Other ideas:

If someone’s late by only a few minutes or so, then that’s no big deal, you know, I have no problem at all with that. But if someone’s late by, like, an hour or something, then it can be pretty annoying, especially if I’ve gone to the trouble of getting there on time.

3. Are you, yourself, late very often?

If yes:

Yeah, I am. And I know it’s a bad habit, but for some reason, no matter how hard I try, I always seem to end up being late for things!

If no:

No, I wouldn’t say I am. You know, most of the time I’m pretty good with being on time for things, because I always make a quite big effort not to be late.

7. When does time seem to move fast, and when does it seem to move slowly?

Well, I think most people would agree that time moves fast when you’re having fun. And a prime example would be when playing computer games, cos I mean, whenever I play online with my friends, it always seems that only an hour or two has passed, but in actual fact, it’s probably been four or five hours!

And time normally goes slowly when you’re bored or simply just not enjoying yourself. For example, I remember at school, some of my classes felt like they would never end, when in fact they were just, like, 45 minutes long!

8. If you could go back in time, what would you do differently?

That’s a good question. What would I do differently? Um….., ok well first of all, if I could go back in time, I would definitely spend more time practicing the piano, because you know, I never really practiced that much when I was younger, and I kind of regret it now, because I’d love to be able to play the piano well.
