　　在美国，人们把体育运动分为观看项目和群众性项目两大类。观看项目是指那些由少数运动员比赛、其他人在旁边观看的项目，如棒球、篮球、足球等。群众性项目是指大家都可以同时参加的项目，如滑雪、游泳等。无论哪一种项目都吸引着数以万计的爱好者。
